PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
